Where Your Next Great Escape Begins

Here’s what we’re sipping, reading, and listening to this month

Mark Your Calendar: Our April Book Club meets Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m. PT

Harlem Rhapsody follows Jessie Redmon Fauset as she steps into the heart of the Harlem Renaissance, determined to build something meaningful through storytelling while navigating ambition, identity, and love. As a literary editor, she’s shaping the voices that will define a generation all while quietly figuring out where her own voice fits.

This one feels rich, layered, and full of life. It’s about creativity, courage, and being part of something bigger than yourself. It pulls you into the energy of Harlem at the time. A perfect pick if you love character-driven stories with a strong sense of place (and a lot to talk about once you’re done).

The Wine: Pinot Noir / Gewurztraminer Co-Ferment

This Pinot Noir–Gewürztraminer co-ferment from Six Eighty Cellars is the kind of wine that makes you do a double take in the best way. Made by a New York winery that works exclusively with clay amphora and concrete eggs (not barrels) and is constantly experimenting with grapes and winemaking styles, it’s light-bodied and chillable, bursting with cranberry, pomegranate, and spice, layered with floral, almost lychee-like aromatics and a soft, tea-like texture that keeps it feeling fresh and lifted.

And yes—this combination is a little weird. Pinot Noir (a red grape) and Gewürztraminer (a white grape) aren’t exactly a classic duo, and generally don’t like to be blended….at all…but together they create something playful, layered, and a little unexpected, much like Harlem Rhapsody itself.

Just as the novel brings together ambition, creativity, and complex relationships to shape something lasting, this wine blends two distinct personalities into something vibrant and full of life. It’s a pairing that celebrates taking risks, following curiosity, and discovering that sometimes the most surprising combinations are the ones that truly sing.

Can’t join the wine club? Pair with any wine made from a New York vineyard! They’re pushing boundaries with viticulture practices to match their crazy weather patterns!
